The STEM E team at MMS is working on Robotics. We have three teams creating, building, and coding their robots. The students had to decide what they wanted their robots to do - to solve a specific task or problem. As an added requirement this year, the group has to market their robot as a "Smart Tank" idea. Combining robotics with Smart Tank has allowed us to work on communication and presentation skills, as well as business skills.

On Saturday, February 25th, the Martins Creek Middle School Science Olympiad team traveled to the University of North Carolina at Asheville to take part in the Western Regional North Carolina Science Olympiad tournament. Our team members have been practicing since the fall semester for these events. Science Olympiad is a STEM program where students learn about certain areas of math, science, and technology. Some events involve learning key facts and applying them to real-world problems, while others have students build a device to be tested on specific rules and parameters. Throughout this season, our team members have shown a lot of progress and an eagerness to learn. They represented our school the right way the entire time. Though no medals were earned, our team gave their best effort. Luke Bradley missed a medal by one spot, placing 5th in Bottle Rocket. Likewise, Della Henson and Estelle Vaughn placed 5th in…
