On Saturday, February 25th, the Martins Creek Middle School Science Olympiad team traveled to the University of North Carolina at Asheville to take part in the Western Regional North Carolina Science Olympiad tournament. Our team members have been practicing since the fall semester for these events. Science Olympiad is a STEM program where students learn about certain areas of math, science, and technology. Some events involve learning key facts and applying them to real-world problems, while others have students build a device to be tested on specific rules and parameters. Throughout this season, our team members have shown a lot of progress and an eagerness to learn. They represented our school the right way the entire time. Though no medals were earned, our team gave their best effort. Luke Bradley missed a medal by one spot, placing 5th in Bottle Rocket. Likewise, Della Henson and Estelle Vaughn placed 5th in Roller Coaster. Luke also placed 7th in Bio-Process Lab. In addition, Ryder Yarbrough placed 7th in Green Generation, Mason Vazquez placed 7th in Rocks & Minerals, and Colton Senger placed 8th in the Bridge event. Below is a list of all of our team members with the events they participated in. Their grade level is shown beside their name in parentheses. Thank you.
